Leguminosa anual. Puede alcanzar hasta 2 metros de altura y posee una fuerte raíz pivotante. Presenta un crecimiento explosivo, pudiendo producir importantes cantidades de biomasa y nitrógeno en tan solo 6 semanas desde la siembra. Es utilizada tanto como cultivo de cobertura como forraje. Excelente palatabilidad y fuente de proteínas.
